After weeks of refusing to answer whether or not he would debate Republican Marc Molinaro, Governor Andrew Cuomo seemed to get forced into an invitation during a live interview on WCBS 880 News Friday morning.

"You want to call me, tomorrow, I will be here. You want to do it with Mr. Molinaro, I will be here. If you want to moderate a discussion, I will be here," the governor said.

Cuomo's sudden change of heart came after the New York Post ran this photo of the governor on its cover wearing a chicken suit for refusing to debate Molinaro. The same photo ran Friday, albeit slightly smaller.

The governor's offer, agreeing to debate 24 hours later, on a Saturday morning, on a radio station only available to downstate listeners, seemed to catch Molinaro slightly off guard.

"Well, that's news to me," he said. "I mean, as of late last night and early this morning, no one had had any conversation about anything. The governor thinks that by getting on the air in some last-minute pitch on CBS radio in New York City that we should all just follow his rules."

Molinaro says he objects to the format proposed by the governor, as well as a lack of negotiation with his campaign, not to mention the short notice.

He said he would debate Cuomo at the radio station if a TV camera was present and it was held on a weekday.

"What was offered up this morning wasn't a debate. It's a theater production. And I don't think New Yorkers should be treated like props in his play," Molinaro said. "A debate is when two candidates come together for radio and television, when New Yorkers have an opportunity to listen, watch and learn."

Cuomo claims Molinaro doesn't actually want to debate him.

"They want to debate the idea of debates. They don't want to actually debate," Cuomo said. My opponent, who is now so eager to debate, refused to debate in his primary."

The primary Cuomo is referring to never actually materialized since John DeFrancisco, who initially sought the Republican nomination for governor, dropped out of the race long before Molinaro was even nominated by the party.
