Vietnam War veterans sat down with fourth graders at P.S. 101 Friday morning to discuss what called them to serve.

It was all part of "Take a Vet to School Day," a collaboration between NY1's parent company, Spectrum, and the History Channel.

Veterans spoke about their backgrounds and kids got to ask questions about their time in the military.

Veterans hoped the assembly would encourage kids to have a lifelong respect for those who serve.

"Children will learn from that and they won't make the same mistakes or maybe they won't make the same mistakes this country made before when they grow up," said Veteran Raymond Ohrablo.

The speakers were all from the Vietnam War Veterans Association of America Chapter 32 in Whitestone.
