After heavy snowfall, several schools and events were canceled Friday.

But, one group of Binghamton University students moved ahead with their sleep out challenge. They gathered in Hinman Quad to experience what it's like to be homeless on a cold night.

Students say the goal is to help educate people.

"We start having a dialogue and it's really moving, sometimes people cry it just happens. And it's really impactful for students, especially freshman, because it inspires them to get involved off campus," said Binghamton student Lexi Murman.

The Binghamton Rescue Mission estimates there are 308 homeless people out on any given night.
