QUEENS, N.Y. - Jury selection begins today in the murder trial of the man charged with killing a Queens runner.

Chanel Lewis is accused of beating and strangling Karina Vetrano of Howard Beach in August of 2016.

His attorneys argued an initial police stop of Lewis in Howard Beach about two months before the killing was improper. During that stop police asked Lewis for his name and address and later used that information to get a DNA sample as part of their investigation.

They say Lewis was racially profiled.

But the judge ruled the information obtained from that stop is permissible at trial.

Vetrano was attacked while running in Spring Creek Park.
