A rapper brings joy to kids in his home borough of Brooklyn.

Safaree hosted his first back to school drive yesterday at P.S. K 140.

Hundreds of kids were able to snag school supplies, clothing, and backpacks. There was also  be live music, food, and games.

Safaree says as he continues to build his career, he understands how he can use his platform as a public figure to empower kids in the community.

"You know I always said if I ever got a little bit of fame or a little bit of money, that I would want to give back to the community especially Brooklyn cause that's where I'm from, so you know, it's only right," he said.

There were also free haircuts available. Safaree says he plans to host the event annually.
