AUSTIN — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday in Austin.

According to DPS, on Saturday at approximately 10:16 p.m. a trooper began pursuing a stolen vehicle occupied by a man. During the incident, the trooper discharged his firearm, striking the suspect.   

The suspect is identified as 21-year-old Dustin Lee Dougherty, from Leander was transported to a local hospital. The trooper was uninjured.

The Dougherty was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail, and charged with assault on public servant, evading arrest detention with vehicle, unauthorized use of motor vehicle, State jail felony and evading arrest, detention.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Texas Rangers.
