BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- At a time when the opioid crisis is impacting two out of three residents in the Southern Tier, the need for community resources is crucial.

Jeff Eaddy-El is a certified recovery coach at Voices Recovery Center.

Having gone through addiction himself, he helps people by sharing his story.

"Most of the people we see in the Voices Recovery Center are people who are actually using or have relapsed from using. In my 30-something years of being in recovery, I have experienced relapse, I have experienced using. At the end of my road I was shooting heroin on a daily basis,” said Eaddy-El.

Eaddy-El knows firsthand that recovery is a process for everyone.

In an effort to raise awareness of treatment options, Voices hosted a recovery celebration Saturday.

Part of Eaddy-El's job is to bring activities like yoga, intensity fitness and meditation to the Recovery Center.

"I don't glamorize addiction, active addiction, because there's nothing glamorous about it, but I do glamorize recovery because I never knew life would be so well,” said Eaddy-El.

As a peer advocate, he promotes health, wellness and choice — inspiring others to choose recovery.
