A woman died Wednesday while trying to cross the street.
It happened at an intersection neighbors say is notoriously dangerous.
Police say the 63 year old victim was in the crosswalk at Rockaway Beach Blvd & Beach 73rd St. when she was hit by a vehicle.
Arverne residents have nicknamed Rockaway Beach Boulevard the, "NASCAR Speedway."
The Department of Transportation announced last year plans to install several traffic calming measures.
The project was slated to take three years to complete.
