A no trespassing sign outside a Queens apartment complex has some residents seeing red.

The sign was attached to a fence at Parkway Village in Briarwood.

When it was first put up it read: "You quite possibly could get shot or hurt and then try to sue resulting in a long drawn out court battle. You Will Lose. Because this sign will be Exhibit A."

The word "shot" was eventually covered up by the management company.

It says the sign was meant to remind people to stay away from a nearby construction area.

But some residents found the sign upsetting.

"A lot of them were outraged and some were scared. Because who would think about shooting somebody unless somebody in the office has a gun and why would they carry it? What kind of neighborhood is this," said one resident.

"I thought that honestly these people would be thinking about their own safety. Not looking for a word to make a big mess because it's nothing," said Site Manager Jeanette Hernandez.

One of the board members at Parkway Village did apologize for the wording of the sign, saying it never should have been written that way.
