One of the city's deputy mayors will be named to run a multi-agency initiative focused on children's safety and well-being in the city.

Dr. Herminia Palacio, the current deputy mayor for Health and Human Services, will be named the new deputy mayor of the Children's Cabinet.

Palacio's new role was announced Saturday at a baby shower she hosted for families in Jamaica, Queens.

Around 300 new and expectant mothers attended the shower, where they received baby care supplies, such as diapers, as well as information about child and maternal health.
