An event in Queens highlights women's health and it was held in honor of Women's History Month.

Senator Leroy Comrie has partnered with the Healthcare Education Project to host the second annual "Women's Health Empowerment Symposium" at York College Saturday.

The free, all-day event featured experts on diabetes, cancer and mental health.

Organizers say the event is a way to remind women that it's important to make time to take care of their health.

"Women play such a pivotal role in our society but we never pause to take care of our health and I strongly believe that preventive health extends our life expectancy," said Marcelle Dinnall, Healthcare Advocate, Healthcare Education Project.

Participants also got their blood pressure checked by students from York College's school of nursing.
