United Airlines is apologizing after a passsenger's dog died during a flight from Houston to LaGuardia.

A flight attendant had ordered the dog's owner to store the 10-month-old puppy in an overhead bin with her carry-on luggage.

According to one passenger's Facebook post, the dog cried throughout the flight, but was silent by the time the plane landed.

United is calling this a tragic accident and says it is investigating.

The company also noted pets should never be placed in overhead storage.
