A Queens playwright is calling on the community for inspiration.

Judith Sloan hosted a community storytelling and dialogue event at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center on Saturday.

It's all part of her project called 'It Can Happen Here.' The production was authorized by the Queens Council on the Arts’ Artist Commissioning Program. The program awards Queens-based artists including choreographers and playwrights ten thousand dollars each to create and produce original works. Sloan was awarded the grant to write a play about untold storied within the community in Jamaica, Queens.

"What I'm doing is actually listening to the ideas and the issues that people are thinking about that are not being spoken and fictionalizing and making a piece based on more about the feelings that people have," said Sloan.

Her play is expected to debut in September.
