There was a heroic rescue in Queens Saturday night after two people became trapped inside their car surrounded by floodwater.

Fire officials say they received a call just before 10 p.m. for an immobile car near 159th Road and 102nd Street in Howard Beach.

The West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire Department was the first to respond.

"We were the first ones on the scene. We got the people out of the sunroof, and then the city started proceeding their way in," said Daniel Amorim, chief of the West Hamilton Beach Volunteer Fire Department. "The tide was supposed to be high point this morning and last night. Unfortunately, no one expected the water to come up this high today."

No one was injured during the rescue.
