SAN ANTONIO - Katie Rakowitz and Tiffany Murgo have been best friends for quite a while.

"We met in sixth grade at Bradley Middle School," Rakowitz said.

They both have kids and a lot in common.

"We know, just like any other family, how hard it is to find trusted care - somebody you're going to feel comfortable leaving … in your home," Murgo said.

That's how they got the idea for their business. Launched in 2012, Time Out Sitters is still going strong in San Antonio. They've got 200 sitters and lots of local clients.

"Now we have over 3000. We can do it all. Babysitting, pet sitting, house sitting. We help in church nurseries right now. We've done wedding receptions, staycations, all that kind of stuff," Rakowitz said.

From the Alamo City, they plan to expand their online sitting services to Dallas and everything in-between.

The company is a little different than other similar services, and it all revolves around ease of access and safety for parents and their sitters.

"We personally interview all of the sitters. They are 18 and older; they are CPR/first aid certified. We do reference checks. Those references have to be child care references and we also do annual background checks," Murgo said.

Murgo and Rakowitz personally match sitters' resumes to clients' needs. Every client then gets an email with a photo and bio.

"They just get confirmation and the sitter shows up. They can just check out with a credit card. It's nice and easy. No stopping for cash on your way home to pay the sitter," said Rakowitz.

Hourly rates are pre-set, and it doesn't usually take long to find a sitter.

"We love filling requests. It's almost like a game. Last-minute request (like when) we have the rodeo happening or when Fiesta comes around," said Murgo.

"We're blessed that we get to do this every day with each other and it's neat to see where it's come from and where it's going," Rakowitz said.
