PARKLAND, Fla. — One of the victims of last week's Florida high school shootings is being posthumously admitted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

  • Peter Wang given Class of 2025 letter of acceptance
  • He was shot while holding door open to help others

Peter Wang, according to the Academy, had a "lifetime goal to attend USMA."

He was an Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Seventeen people were killed in the Feb. 14 shootings. Suspect Nikolas Cruz is in custody. According to CNN, Wang was shot repeatedly while holding a door open to let other people escape.

"One of USMA's priorities is to develop leaders of character who are committed to the values of Duty, Honor and Country," the Academy said in a post on Twitter.

"Peter Wang's actions on February 14 are an example of those principles."
