After an 18-month closure, a Bedford-Stuyvesant library reopens with brand-new renovations.

Kindergarten and first-grade classes from P.S. 54 were among the first inside the newly renovated Marcy Library.

City Councilman Robert Cornegy celebrated the reopening by reading a book.

Cornegy says education is a priority in the area, and he is happy the Marcy Library can play a part in it.

"For most residents in this immediate area, it didn't happen fast enough because they wanted to get their kids in here and have an opportunity to have a safe space to read and learn," Cornegy said.

As well as getting a new HVAC unit, the library's interior was repainted and equipped with new technology.
