HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle in Henrietta Tuesday night has been identified as a deaf RIT student.

Deputies say 24-year-old Steven Carranco of California was walking along the west shoulder of East River Road when he was struck by a box truck near Cape Henry Trail.

Deputies say the driver of the truck told deputies he heard his truck hit something and immediately stopped. He went back to find Carranco lying in the road.

Carranco was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with head, leg and other injuries. He remains in guarded condition.

Traffic tickets are pending in relation to the condition of the vehicle. No criminal charges are anticipated.
