A founding member of the Queens chapter of an LGBT civil rights group has passed away.  She was also the mother of a Queens City Council Member.

Mary Audrey Gallagher, the mother of Council Member Daniel Dromm passed away at the age of 85 from a massive heart attack. In 1993 after marching in Queens's first Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade organized by her son, she helped start the Queens Chapter of PFLAG, Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People.

Gallagher served as PFLAG's Queens Hospitality Chairperson for many years. She was seen at most major LGBT events in Queens. She offered support not only to her gay son but to all LGBT people who entered her life. She believed that parents have the ability to talk to other parents about their LGBT children in a way that others cannot. PFLAG NYC started a national movement that now has more than 250,000 members and supporters in over 500 chapters throughout the United States.
