Holiday trash turns into treasure this week at the Hall of Science.

The museum is hosting Remake The Holidays as a response to high consumption and waste during the season.

Visitors have the opportunity to find creative ways to re purpose the trash by turning it into costumes, puppets, artwork and more.

Officials with the museum tell us they hope this inspires families to have discussions about recycling and the environment.

"It's sort of a serious topic that we're threading into, this really like fun, festive time of year; but I think people understand that you can have fun around serious topics," said Director of Public Programs Liz Slagus.

The event runs through December 30.
