An investigation is underway after a college professor was viciously beaten Wednesday on Staten Island.

Police say the 49-year-old was walking to the CUNY St. George campus around noon when he was allegedly attacked by a group of teenagers.

Police say as he cut through the Lieutenant Nicholas Lia Memorial Playground he noticed the teens setting paper on fire.

When he confronted them, police say one of the kids hit him with a closed fist.

Police say when the professor turned around, the rest of the kids attacked him, punching and kicking him.

He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center and treated for swelling and bruising.

Police say the professor was unable to positively identify his attackers.
