CARRBORO---The deadline to enroll for the Affordable Care Act is December 15th, much sooner than previous years.

Companies are helping people get enrolled, including Piedmont Health Services in Carrboro.

“In this country, the anxiety isn't about whether there is great care available for people. The anxiety is whether people can afford that care,” says C.E.O. Brian Toomey.

The company held an enrollment event at its Carrboro center Saturday.

“There's such uncertainty out in social media land about what this is about. That uncertainty leads to anxiety,” Toomey adds.

Toomey says many customers are concerned with the ACA's future. The White House and Congress continue to threaten to repeal and replace it. But Toomey says the ACA is still the law of the land.

“Until the law has changed, this is the law.”

Opponents argue the ACA is costing businesses and jobs. However, supporters point to the savings on monthly premiums for many needy families.

“I like to make sure that if I do have health problems that I'm covered, and I make a certain salary so it's low enough so it makes it difficult to cover most of the payments,” says Colton Curtis, who enrolled in the ACA.

Toomey advises people to enroll before its too late.
