The explosive growth in online shopping has New York retailers doing all they can to get you to step away from your computer and into their stores. Retail Analyst Matthew McClintock visited Mornings On 1 to provide insight on the current trends.

This is one of the ways retailers in New York are trying to get shoppers INTO their stores this holiday season: Customization.

"At Ralph Lauren, you come in and you can make any kind of polo shirt. There's a million combinations. Adding Teddy Bears, changing the color of your pony, adding your name, adding all types of designs, to your sweaters and your polo shirts," David Lauren said.

David Lauren is the Vice President of global advertising and marketing of the company started by his father Ralph Lauren.

David says shoppers need to be entertained while they're in stores:

"This is an opportunity for Ralph Lauren to add different kinds of theater into our stores to excite the customer in a new way and as retail is changing we want to be part of the changing landscape that is new and fresh and invites the customer to be part of creating their own products," Lauren said.

At Tiffany, the jewelry store has added the "Blue Box Cafe" so you can actually have "Breakfast At Tiffany's."

Down the street at Saks Fifth Avenue they're offering breakfast with Disney characters to help bring in the children whose parents are presumably the ones with the money.

"This year we're hosting holiday breakfasts every Saturday and Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas where you can have breakfast with Snow White, Snow Prince and Dopey in our restaurant in the flagship," said Saks Fifth Avenue Director of Stores John Antonini

Antonini said his Saks customers are pressed for time so shopping "in-store" can actually be more efficient than shopping online, especially when they use the free personal shopping service in the Fifth Avenue Club.

"You cannot get the expert advice and environment of our Fifth Avenue Club anywhere online, it's exclusively in our stores in New York and around the country," Antonini said.

"So if you do not have a ton of time, we can get you in and out of the store quickly because we know you. We've prepared ahead of time and that abilty to service customers efficiently also brings customers into the store over and over again," Antonini said.
