SAN ANTONIO - It was a sight Angie Rosas couldn't bear to see just one day before Thanksgiving.

"Everything is damaged. We can't stay in the house at all. We have to find somewhere else to go," she said.

San Antonio firefighters were called to Rosas' far west side neighborhood on Longmont near Marbach around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Three homes were on fire.

Rosas' five children - all under ten years old - were inside one of those homes. They all made it out safely but are now homeless.

"I have no family here. All my family is in the Valley," she said.

"For this tragedy to happen any day of the year is horrible, But the day before Thanksgiving? Yeah, it makes it a little worse," said Woody Woodward of the San Antonio Fire Department.

Fire officials said the other two homes appeared to be vacant. The fire started next door and neighbors ran to tell her about the fire, according to Rosas.

"They were wondering why it was taking so long to turn off. They said the fire hydrants weren't working. Water wasn't coming out," said Rosas.

The San Antonio Fire Department admits there were problems in putting out the fire.

"We did have two issues with fire hydrants. I can't comment on what those exact issues where but we will be investigating as to why there were problems with hydrants. However, (they) did not hinder our ability to fight this fire. We were able to move on from those hydrants to other supply," said Woodward.

Rosas can't help but wonder if the outcome could have been different if everything had worked properly.

"Now we have to pay the price. Maybe it wouldn't have been such a big mess," she said.

For now, she takes comfort in knowing her family is safe.
