MINT HILL -- A loaded weapon was found in a student's backpack at a Rocky River High School in Mint Hill on Friday.

In a release, Mint Hill police say someone called school officials and told them that a 14-year-old  had the weapon in their backpack.

That person identified the teen  by name. When removed from class, school officials along with the school resource officer found the weapon.

The teen was was taken into custody and later released to their parent.

We’re told a juvenile petition will be filed with juvenile court services and that there is no indication on whether the student ever removed it from their backpack while on school property.
