A cultural exposition helped mark a major milestone for the Queens Library this weekend. 

The Queens Library's New Americans Program celebrated its 40th anniversary on Sunday.

Since 1977, the program has provided resources and assistance to help new immigrants to the borough adapt to American society. 

Cultural performances, arts and crafts as well food demonstrations helped mark the occasion. 

"When people come to the country the first place they go to is a library and a library to find out what is happening, to get services, to learn English," said Dennis Walcott, the President & CEO of the Queens Library.

The assistant director of the program, Frank Gitner, was also given a scrap book and a certificate of recognition for his work
