One Brooklyn neighborhood is turning to members of its community to help keep it a safe place to live.

The Dyker Heights Civic Association announced plans to form a nontraditional neighborhood watch group.

Instead of having residents patrol the area, the group has decided to use an online messaging system.

Members will be asked to share information and other observations about activity in the neighborhood.

The civic association says there has been no change in crime patterns to spark the groups formation.

They will also use the communication system to bring attention to quality of life issues.
