Building a new home can take time but construction on one Queens house has taken more than a decade, and those living nearby have had enough.

Work began on this house on Totten Street in Whitestone back in 2004...but as you can say it's still not finished.  Those who live nearby say the property is a health hazard and a breeding ground for rodents and mosquitoes.

"You have your kids running around in the back yard and they're getting bit by mosquitoes from the property that you don't know, you don't know what kind of germs they are carrying," said neighbor Tom Longstreet.

The Department of Buildings say it is investigating the property and has issued numerous violations to the property owner.  Officials say a construction permit expired in 2014.
