ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Mohawk Valley rescue missions are already preparing for Thanksgiving and they need your help.

The Rescue Mission of Utica and Rome Rescue Mission both are taking donations for Thanksgiving meals. They each could use 500 more turkeys, as well as other Thanksgiving dinner foods.

The Rescue Mission of Utica said the organization is behind on donations for this time of year. A Rome Rescue Mission member said they're in need too, but expect the majority of their donations to come this week.

"This year, the donations have been so slow. The turkeys have been so slow coming in, we haven't even reached the amount of turkeys that we need to cook," said Rescue Mission of Utica Senior Cook Willie White.

"I think that there's a bit of a lag as far as the timing of people coming out, and again that's why it's so critical that we get that support this week," said Rome Rescue Mission Director Health and Wellness MaryJo Timpano.

In addition to on-site Thanksgiving dinners, both rescue missions will also have meal deliveries, and be distributing food.
