CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- A 19-year-old woman from Canandaigua has been charged with criminally negligent homicide following a year-long investigation into a drug overdose death.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Megan Ward failed to get proper aid for a 19-year-old man last September after he overdosed on drugs.

Investigators say Ward helped the man obtain the drugs, and when he began to show signs of an overdose, drove him to an emergency room nearly 25 miles away.

During the drive, the victim allegedly stopped breathing and Ward did not call 911 or seek medical attention at a closer facility.

She was arraigned in Town of Hopewell Court and taken to Ontario County Jail.

Ward is due back in court on Tuesday.
