CHARLOTTE -- Several new voices are heading to Charlotte’s city council. One of them is Braxton Winston.

Many of us know Winston from a dramatic picture taken during some of the protests following the Keith Scott shooting.

Winston says last September's protests sparked his interest in politics. His platform focused on equity for everyone -- pushing for better jobs, public safety, transportation.

This past week, Winston won one of the four at large city council seats.

Winston hopes his rise to politics will encourage others to become more active in the community.

“Continue to show up, keep coming. I need you to be my eyes and ears out here and hold my feet to the fire,” said Winston.

Chelsea Clinton gave a shout-out to Winston on Twitter late Thursday.

Councilman-elect Winston along with the other new council members will be sworn in on December 4 at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg
