CABARRUS COUNTY -- Officials have confirmed that all Cabarrus County high schools were evacuated and are being dismissed early on Thursday due a threat.

J.N. Fries Middle School is also dismissing early.

The Concord Police Department and Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office says they are jointly investigating a threat.

Concord Police Department tweeted that it is "not a credible threat" but that they are closing the schools out of an "abundance of caution."

The director of communications for Cabarrus County Schools released the following statement: "All CCS high school campuses will be dismissing early today as a precautionary measure in response to an unspecified threat. This is a coordinated decision between law enforcement and Cabarrus County Schools. The dismissals will begin immediately. Early Colleges are not being released early."
