BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- Recent testing of Brunswick County water is showing high levels of an unregulated chemical.

H2GO announced Wednesday that the chemical 1,4-Dioxane showed levels at 10 times the EPA health advisory level.

Officials with H2GO, Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer, say before sending a message out they spoke with researchers at N.C. State and just want to show transparency with their customers.

"The first thing that comes to my mind is we got to let our customers know. We have that responsibility to inform our customers of this kind of information," said Tyler Wittkofsky, H2GO public information officer.

H2GO buys its water from Brunswick County.

County officials released a statement saying that with the information provided, further investigation will be underway.
