Officials held an informational session in Albany on Monday night regarding a proposal on the upcoming ballot. It’s called a constitutional convention, that comes up for vote every 20 years.

Voters will have the option to vote yes or no to have elected delegates consider changes to how the state is governmentally run.

Monday night's informational event at the Albany Library featured opponents of the measure like the New York Civil Liberties Union, who feel lawmakers in Albany can’t be trusted due to the current climate. Supporters like the League of Women Voters of New York State, though, feel it could help end corruption.

"We would like to open up the constitution to get to some of the reforms that we just can’t get through the legislature," said Laura Bierman, executive director of the League of Women Voters. "For years, we’ve been lobbying for years for things like voting reforms and ethics."

"We see the whole thing together as rigged to favor the interest of the powerful instead of the everyday voter," said Erika Lorshbough, legislative counsel for the NYCLU.
