A Queens Poet Laureate heads back to her alma mater to share her work.

Queens College hosted a poetry reading by poet Maria Lisella, Wednesday.

Lisella was given the honor of Poet Laureate in 2015 by Borough President Melinda Katz and is the second to come from the college.

She shared fifteen poems that highlighted her life in Queens and 30 years of being a travel writer

all centering around immigration, inclusiveness, and empathy.

"It's actually a real, a real honor to be able to show what I learned, you know, and bring it back home," said Maria Lisella, poet.

The event is part of Queens College's 80th Anniversary and their celebration of Italian-American historical and cultural month.
