After two decades of students learning in trailers, a school in East Elmhurst is about to get a major upgrade.

Local lawmakers and community members announced a new annex coming to PS 2 Friday.

It comes after the school adopted this modular unit as a temporary fix 20 years ago.

According to Borough President Melinda Katz, moving kids from school trailers into school buildings has been a trend in Queens.

In the past three years, she says 54 trailer have been removed and about 2600 students have been brought back into school buildings.

"I understand that the quality of the location in which the children learn is extremely important," said Borough President Melinda Katz

"Our children deserve good educational spaces that are indoors rather than modular buildings, temporary units or trailers," said City Councilman Costa Constantinides.

There are still no details on how big the annex at PS 2 will be, what it will have or how much it will cost.

Officials expect it to be ready by 2021.
