After 25 years of potholes and broken utilities, drivers in Jamaica are in for a much smoother ride.

Locals lawmakers and officials celebrated the repaving of Jamaica Avenue Friday morning.

The resurfacing included 94,000 square feet of sidewalk, 100 corner ramps and 1200 feet of street curbs between 168th Street and Francis Lewis Boulevard.

The repaving was part of the City's $1.6 million dollar initiative to resurface roads around the five boroughs..

"This resurfacing makes Jamaica Avenue safer and work better for the people who live here, who travel through it and do business," said Queens Transportation Commissioner, Nicole Garcia.

"This project will save motorists money and otherwise that would be spent on repairs," said City councilman I. Daneek Miller

Last winter, the City Department of Transportation repaved the strip between 224th Street and Francis Lewis Boulevard.
