Police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly robbed an 85-year-old woman in her Flushing apartment.

Cops said the suspect responded to a newspaper ad the victim placed about furniture for sale, but instead he stole from the elderly victim.

"I feel like horrible, I mean this is a good building I never heard of anything like that happening here before," said one resident.

Police said the suspect entered the victims apartment building near Maple Avenue and Kissena Boulevard Wednesday. He allegedly brandished a knife to steal a $4,000 ring. The suspect also got away with more than $500 worth of alcohol and tea. Police said the victim was not hurt, but many neighbors who live nearby said it's still frightening to hear.

"I thought Flushing is safe, but, but you know things happen sometimes, you know," said another resident.

Some residents we spoke with who live nearby said the robbery is a reminder to be careful what you post online, or in this case in the newspaper. They said they'll reconsider letting strangers inside their home for any reason.

"You just don't know if you're gonna meet up with a legit person, if it's a scam, you just don't know," said one resident.

Now police are asking for help identifying the suspect. He was last seen wearing a striped shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers. Authorities say he's about 45-years old, has a light complexion and is balding. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8477.
