It's no longer just a slab of asphalt for recess for some students in Queensboro Hill.

Students took an inaugural jog around their new track at P.S. 120 Thursday morning.

It was all part of a major makeover of the school's playground.

Fourth graders designed the space, which now has an outdoor classroom, a gazebo, synthetic turf and more.

The Trust for Public Land, the City Department of Environmental Protection and New York Road Runners helped renovate the playground.

"We need open spaces and play spaces within a 10 minute walk of where we live is so we can de-stress, get out, run around and burn off a little energy," said The New York State Trust For Public Land Director Carter Strickland.

"Having an outdoor space like this really changes the culture of our school community to inspire people to get outside," said P.S. 120 Assistant Principal Serena Forzaglia.

Kids and officials ceremonially broke ground on the project back in May.
