A local councilman honored seniors in his district with a special breakfast Tuesday.

Councilman I. Daneek Miller teamed up with Public Advocate Letitia James and Healthfirst for a Senior Appreciation Month celebration. More than 300 seniors received a free meal as well as information on ways to stay healthy.

Miller said the breakfast was also in honor of veterans in the district.

“We value the freedoms and the sacrifices that were made,” Miller said.

“To be here today and to applaud these heroes and she-roes for all they've done for us and for the gratitude that they have shown America is an outstanding opportunity for all of us,” said George Hulse, VP of Community Engagement for Healthfirst.

Other festivities scheduled for senior month in the borough include a senior doo-wop performance and fitness session.
