Some Elmhurst children get extra help getting ready for the new school year.

The NYPD's Patrol Borough Queens North teamed up with JC Penney to raffle off 250 backpacks outside the Queens Center Mall Wednesday.

Each bag came equipped with looseleaf paper, pencils, crayons and more.

Kids also got free haircuts and makeup lessons.

Organizers hope it helps kids start the school year on the right foot.

"They can go back to school with this backpack and tell all their friends that 'Hey, I got this from my neighborhood police officers, "said NYPD Deputuy Inspector Anthony Gazis.

"That's what it's really about: just having fun today and almost, you know, relieving their stress about going back to school, make sure they're wanna understand going back to school is a positive thing, " said Syncer Ingram, General Manger, JC Penney, Queens Center Mall.

City school students head back back to the classroom on September 7.
