Jews from all over the world come to Cambria Heights to mark the anniversary of their spiritual leader's death.

Thousands of Jews packed into Old Montefiore Cemetery on Francis Lewis Boulevard Tuesday to remember Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson .

He died 23 years ago. To honor his memory,  members of the Chabad Lubavitch  community said prayers by his grave and lit traditional candles.

They also left notes by his grave.

His followers say although Schneerson is no longer with them -- his lessons live on.

"An opportunity for me to reach a deeper potential within myself to be all I can be because that's what the Rebbe encouraged all of us., " said one of Schneerson's followers.

"It's an inspiration, it's a, it's a calling. It reminds me of what I'm here to do." added another.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Schneerson's "Mitzvah Campaign," which encouraged members of the community to promote Judaism in their neighborhoods.
