A school district, local officials call one of the most overcrowded in the city, will soon get a new elementary school.

The officials broke ground at the site of the former White Castle business headquarters in Jackson Heights Thursday.

The school will have 476 new seats for students in pre-k through fifth grade.

There will also be art and music classrooms and a rooftop garden.

Local officials say the new school will make a big difference.

"With these kind of buildings, we can individualize education and really help our students succeed," said Philip Composto, Superintendent, NYCDOE.

"A sixty-two dollar investment in this community is a really significant investment. But it's for our children and it's for the future so that 62 million is going to go to really good use," saidcouncilman Daniel Dromm. Officials say right now there is no word if admissions will be based on addresses or if there will be any special programs.

The school is expected to open in September 2019.
