The MTA lays out its Long Island Railroad summer service plan as the start of extensive track repairs at Penn Station approaches.

The agency says it will increase rider capacity by adding additional cars to existing trains.

They're also offering alternative travel options — two new ferry routes and 200 coach buses for commuters to use to get into the city.

MTA will also give free morning subway transfers to all LIRR ticketholders.

Officials say they will closely monitor the changes during the construction period.

"We're all in this together," said MTA interim CEO Ronnie Hakim. "The idea of this service plan is to be as responsive to our customer's needs as possible. So to the extent that we need to tweak bus service or do something different with our ferries, we'll be out there and have lots of supervision staff in all of these locations to manage our customers' expectations."

The plan goes into effect on July 10 and will last until at least September 1.
