NEW YORK - It's not ideal beach weather but if you're sticking around this weekend, the city's 14 miles of beaches officially open for the season Saturday.

And if you're thinking of braving the chilly water, lifeguards are on duty between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Swimming is prohibited where lifeguards are not on duty, or in closed sections marked by signs or red flags.

If the pool is more your thing, you'll have to wait a bit longer.

The city's outdoor pools do not open until June 29.
