Readers in Queens will soon have a new place to buy books, thanks to the efforts of a group of friends worried about a lack of book stores in the borough.

The Queens Bookshop just announced the location of their new store on Lefferts Blvd near Beverly Road in Kew Gardens. The shop is the first new bookstore in that neighborhood in more than 3 decades.

We first told you about this initiative in 2016, it was started by three friends after two Barnes and Nobles stores in the borough closed, leaving readers with very few options.

Similar to it's pop-up stores, it will offer an array of books along with a section for local authors.

"The way I've always said it is I want us to be that cool little place that you have to bring your out of town friend too. I think at the end our hope is to connect that well with the community that they just have to bring people," said Holly Nikodem, Co-Founder of the Queens Bookshop Initiative.

The owners are working to get the store ready for an August opening.
