As Queens continues to recover from Hurricane Sandy, prospective homeowners in South Ozone Park put in their bids Thursday for properties damaged in the storm.

Eighty-six properties throughout the state went up for bids during the Governor's Office of Storm Recovery's fourth auction.

Previous owners of the properties sold them to the state after Hurricane Sandy.

Winning bidders have to elevate the homes and get a certificate of occupancy from the Department of Buildings within three years.

“We're really revitalizing neighborhoods that suffered after Sandy,” said Lisa Bova-Hiatt of the Governor's Office of Storm Recovery. “And what we're doing is serving to build stronger communities, make sure that the housing stock is preserved in these neighborhoods, and that New York as a whole more resilient.”

Proceeds from the auctions go back into the state's recovery efforts fund.
