A ceremony was held in Queens Friday morning to honor workers in the city who have died on the job.

Workers from several labor and first responder unions joined supporters for a "Day of Action" in Long Island City.

It's meant to highlight the need for better job safety and training, and show solidarity between different industries in the five boroughs.

Organizers say there have been more than 30 deaths at city construction sites in the last two years.

"Many of these deaths have been preventable. We as a city and state need to take action to protect workers so that they don't end up dying on the job, so that they know when they go to work they're gonna come home safely to their families," said Charlene Obernauer of the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health.

"Employers have to invest in the workers. The safety of the worker is more important than profit," said one construction worker.

Attendees also held a special dedication to Yadira Arroyo, the EMT killed on duty in the Bronx last month.
