Officials unveiled some new safety measures at a dangerous intersection in Queens on Friday.

Crews have installed new traffic signals at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and 90th Street in Jackson Heights.

Cars traveling northbound on Elmhurst Avenue are now no longer allowed to turn left onto Roosevelt Avenue.

DOT officials report that there have been two pedestrian deaths and several serious injuries at the intersection in the last few years.

"The new crosswalks and signals are paired with a change to the traffic in this area that makes it safer for everyone,” said Nicole Garcia, the Queens Borough Commissioner for the NYC Department of Transportation.

Local leaders at the unveiling added that, they too, hope the upgrades will help save lives.

“More people's lives will be saved because of this simple installation of these street lights,” said State Senator Jose Peralta.

The upgrades were made as part of the Mayor's Vision Zero Initiative.
