Some changes are coming to a street in Queens where residents have been asking for improvements for more than a year.

The city Department of Transportation plans to start renovating 111th Street near Corona Avenue Monday.

The work will include painting extensions to the medians to keep pedestrians safer when they cross the street, and a parking-protected bike lane along Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

New parking spaces will also be added along the 111th Street median.

In a controversial move, Mayor Bill de Blasio bypassed the local community board to push forward with the changes.

More changes are expected this summer as the city plans to narrow the roadway, widen pedestrian medians, and install two-way protected bike lanes.
